The Umbrella Academy Reveals Prequel Series with June Release Date
Just in time for the latest season of the hit Netflix series, The Umbrella Academy has announced a spin-off prequel series is on the way. Tentatively titled "The Umbrella Academy: The Krause Scandal," this new series will delve into the backstory of the enigmatic and troubled Reginald Hargreeves, also known as The Monocle.
The story is set in the late 1960s, long before the events of the original series, when Hargreeves founded the Umbrella Academy after discovering a group of highly gifted children with extraordinary abilities. The prequel explores the early days of Hargreeves’ investigation into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the children’s adoption, as well as the troubled relationships between the children’s biological parents and the secretive government agencies involved.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Netflix revealed that the prequel series will consist of eight episodes, each approximately one hour long. The first episode is set to premiere exclusively on Netflix in June. Fans of the original series can expect the same witty humor, complex characters, and intricate plot twists that have made The Umbrella Academy a fan favorite among Netflix subscribers.
The core cast of the original series, including Ellen Page as Vanya Hargreeves, Tom Hopper as Luther Hargreeves, and David Castañeda as Diego Hargreeves, is expected to make appearances throughout the prequel series, providing a glimpse into their younger years and the roots of their complicated relationships. New characters, including parents and government agents, are also set to be introduced, further expanding the sprawling universe of The Umbrella Academy.
Showrunner Steven Blackman, who has been an integral part of the production team since the first season, will return to develop and executive produce the prequel series alongside original showrunner Jeremy Slater. Veteran screenwriter and producer Katie Schuler will also contribute to the writing team, known for her work on films like "The Mule" and "The Girl on the Train."
Fans of The Umbrella Academy have been eagerly awaiting additional content since the conclusion of the second season, which left many questions unanswered regarding the fate of the main characters. The announcement of the prequel series brings new hope and excitement, offering a fresh perspective on the beloved characters and shedding light on the mysterious history of the Hargreeves family.
With an expected release date in June, fans can mark their calendars and get ready for another thrilling adventure into the world of The Umbrella Academy.
