Reese Witherspoon, one of the stars and executive producers of the hit HBO series Big Little Lies, has confirmed that production has begun on the show’s highly anticipated third season.
In an interview with Good Morning America, Witherspoon, who plays Madeline Mackenzie on the show, revealed that filming for Season 3 started last month and is well underway. “We’ve been shooting for a couple of weeks now, and it’s been amazing to get back into the character,” she said.
Big Little Lies, which debuted in 2017, follows the lives of three mothers – Madeline, Celeste (Nicole Kidman), and Jane (Shailene Woodley) – and their families as they navigate the complexities of relationships, identity, and community in a small coastal town. The show has received widespread critical acclaim for its nuanced storytelling, complex characters, and outstanding performances.
The series’ second season concluded on June 9, 2019, leaving fans eagerly awaiting news on when they would get to revisit the beloved characters. The wait is finally over, and Witherspoon promised that the new season would be just as compelling and emotional as the previous ones.
“We’re really focused on exploring the characters even more deeply this season, and I think you’re going to see some big changes,” she teased. “We’re also exploring some new themes and addressing some really important issues. I think it’s going to be a really exciting and emotional ride.”
HBO has not yet officially announced a release date for Big Little Lies Season 3, but Witherspoon hinted that it will likely premiere sometime in 2022. In the meantime, fans can catch up on the previous two seasons on HBO and its streaming platforms.
With the return of the show just around the corner, audiences are no doubt eagerly awaiting the next chapter in the lives of Madeline, Celeste, Jane, and the rest of the Monterey Five. With Reese Witherspoon’s reassurance that the new season is shaping up to be just as captivating as its predecessors, fans can breathe a sigh of relief – Big Little Lies is finally back, and it’s going to be a wild ride.
